Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files. Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Just thoughts from one who really doesn't know much about these things. Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.

Why it started up once is still a mystery but it was when I just first started the computer after having the new disk installed.Looking for a new startup file may have been the reason that it started once and now that the new startup file has been established - no more mounting. I think that it just can't find the startup file. I feel that the startup files have been corrupted and I need to be able to fix that in order for the disk to mount. When in the iMac, I had no problems with the disk at all til when updating Yosemite I had the computer shut down. I am sure that the directory is the major problem. So maybe Disk Drill will be able to access it. Have not used Disk Drill yet but when I was using some of the Mac pieces the disk could be seen but not accessed. I have not today had any time to work on the old disk and will not have any time til this evening to spend with it. Let us know if you have success with that.

You could try the earlier suggestion in that link regarding the Startup manager, but since you were in the middle of installing an update to the OS, it might be best to try first with booting to the Recovery Partition. Note that it also eventually recommends booting to the Recovery Partition. This link also discusses issues with the flashing question mark:

Not sure how far along the upgrade to OS 10.10.4 went, but whether or not it got that far, it would be best if you download and install the OS 10.10.4 Combo Updater. What you need to do is run Disk Utility from there and 1) Verify and Repair the disk at the Volume (ie, top) level, and 2) Verify and Repair Permissions, and Verify and Repair the Disk, at the Partition (ie, second) level.Īssuming that works and you can subsequently re-boot your machine, check the version of Yosemite that you have. It will take some time for the boot process to complete, but eventually you will get to the main screen described in that link. To boot your iMac into that partition, hold down the Command and R keys as your iMac starts up. Grab your borrowed Mac, head to the Mac App Store, search for Mojave, and click Download. To start, we’ll need to create an ISO file of macOS Mojave’s installer, so we can load it in VirtualBox on our Windows machine. I heading home from work soon and wont have access to a computer, can anyone help.Since you are using Yosemite, there should be a Recovery Partition ("normally" invisible to the user) on your internal hard drive. Particularly, there are to main methods of installing macOS Mojave on VirtualBox and VMware.

Ok so I have done the PRAM thing, I took out all the ram, and reseated it, and I moved the video card to different slots, I also tested the other 2 connection on the card, still with the same result. HELP!!!! there are project i need to get off my computer. HOWEVER, I can hear the computer continue to load, and if i move the mouse around and click I can hear things being accessed. Meaning I start it, it chimes, i get the grey loading screen the little wheel spins for mabye 15 sec, then the screen goes black and the monitor light flashes green. Mainly Firefox (tired Safari, same thing.) Now the computer will not boot. Also programs started just randomly crashing, for no reason. 4) The updater will also update DiskWarrior 5.0 or 5.1 that is located on any attached DiskWarrior recovery flash drives that were created with earlier versions of DiskWarrior Recovery Maker. Some bad blocks, bad sectors and media errors will not stop. Just plug a new drive into your Mac and let DiskWarrior copy your good files from the failing hard drive to the new drive. DiskWarrior is so advanced it can even recover your data from a failing drive.

The boot times aren’t that bad and it prevents heat related issues. If you have an earlier version of DiskWarrior, learn about the new features of DiskWarrior 5 and how to upgrade by clicking here.
DISKWARRIOR 5 NEVER LOADS OR BOOTS PORTABLE
If you have a portable and you are going to have it in your bag for longer than 10 or 15 minutes turn it off before hand. Data is a liability and Apple doesn’t want to touch it.
DISKWARRIOR 5 NEVER LOADS OR BOOTS FOR MAC
The monitor light would just blink green and the screen would be black. DiskWarrior for Mac will find your documents, photos, music and any other file when a disaster occurs and things get lost. Cannot stress enough, Apple will almost never help you with lost data. First the problem started when the mac would go to sleep I couldnt wake it up.
